My Hometown

Hey everyone! I’m Cassandra Sab-it and I want to tell you about the beautiful mountains of Tadian. Tadian, a beautiful municipality nestled in the western part of Mountain Province, Philippines. Often called the “Gateway to the West,” Tadian is a place where rich culture, stunning landscapes, and warm-hearted people come together. The town was formerly known as Kayan, and its name, “Tadian,” is derived from the Ilocano word “tadi,” which refers to the spur used in cockfighting. This unique name is a small glimpse into the blend of traditions that have shaped our community.
The people of Tadian, known as Applai, are closely related to the Kankana-ey and have a deep-seated respect for their heritage. One of the most remarkable aspects of our culture is the spirit of “Ob-obbo,” a practice of communal cooperation where everyone pitches in to help with tasks like planting and harvesting. This sense of unity is the bedrock of our society. Our traditional houses, called “Binangi,” are a testament to this collaborative spirit, as they are built by the community using local materials.
Tadian is also a place of breathtaking natural beauty. We are proud to have the iconic Mount Mogao, a sacred and picturesque mountain that offers a panoramic view of the surrounding areas. The serene Gawaan Lake is just one of the other natural wonders that draw visitors to our town.Â
Living in Tadian is great. It’s a quiet place, and the people are friendly. Our traditions are a big part of our lives, and we celebrate them with music and dancing. I’m really proud to be from Tadian because it’s a place with so much history, nature, and heart.
